Teenage Love

I discovered this little poem tucked away in a diary I wrote when I was a teenager. There are scores of other poems but for now I am publishing just this one. It sounds silly to me now because after all I wrote it aeons ago but it is a reminder to me that I was always a writer.

I shouldn’t have held your hand,
when you asked me;
because you didn’t really love me.
You warned me of the consequences,
admitted your faithlessness,
even mentioned my worthlessness.
But,
I let you.

I shouldn’t have let you kiss me,
When you held me;
Because for you  it was a game
You emphasised its lightness,
stressed its momentariness,
specified its meaninglessness.
Yet,
I gave in.
